Today we celebrated the end of the second year of the BookShare Project funded by Smurfit Kappa Foundation. Following the success of last years project the Foundation decided to very generously increase their sponsorship to include funding for topic boxes of books for pupils in year 7 at Heartlands E-ACT Academy and to provide a wide range of books for the newly refurbished library at the Nechells E-ACT Academy. Their continued support of this amazing project has meant that again over the last 11 months every child in year one in participating schools has received a book every month to read and take home and share with their family and to start their very own library of beautiful books to help develop a love of reading that will hopefully last them a lifetime.
The final book for July was Hippobottymus by Steve Smallman and we were lucky enough to have Steve join us for the day again this year. He wowed everyone with his amazing sketches and animated storytelling. Pupil, staff and parents all spoke about how brilliant the project had been and how much they have enjoyed reading and sharing all the wonderful books that this fantastic project has provided. We would like to thank everyone involved in the project, Heartlands for providing such a lovely lunch for our sponsors, Alan from SSK for writing another amazing poem about the project which was beautifully read by Cheryl Howard and to all the pupils who were impeccably behaved on such a hot day!
